Airwave, the leading provider of critical voice and data communications to public service organisations in Great Britain, has accepted four new intakes for their apprentice scheme, which has been running since 2008.

Following a rigorous selection procedure that attracted 48 high-quality applicants over the summer, the new apprentices started work at Airwave in October.

According to Airwave’s Learning and Development Manager, Kareen Donaldson: “Airwave considers the development of our people and growing new talent within the company as an important vehicle for the future growth of the company.”

She went on to say that the apprenticeship programme provides a perfect balance of on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring. “Apprentices will be developed through a dedicated training programme that will provide them with an excellent start to their career with Airwave.

Successful applicants are assigned to a line manager in the business, as well as a mentor and buddy (an ex-Airwave apprentice) who are available to help them develop their career within the company. Each apprentice follows a placement programme working in a variety of teams to develop their knowledge of the Airwave business and gain hands-on experience.

“The 2008 and 2009 schemes were a massive success, with the majority of the apprentices securing a permanent role within Airwave in a wide variety of roles, from marketing to business administration across the company.”

Airwave is committed to the long-term development of each apprentice and will work with the individuals to carve out their career and education following completion of the apprentice programme.
