Thorcom Systems has won a contract for the supply and installation of an integrated GPRS vehicle tracking solution that will be used to manage the deployment of more than 5000 incident response vehicles across Qatar

Thorcom Systems, the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of mission critical mobile data and vehicle location solutions, has announced the award of a major £1.3million contract in Qatar, the Gulf State that will be hosting the 2022 World Cup.  The contract is for the supply and installation of an integrated GPRS vehicle tracking solution that will be used to manage the deployment of more than 5000 incident response vehicles across the State.

The contract was awarded to Thorcom Systems by Ideal Solutions, one of the top electronic solutions providers in the Gulf area, as part of a project with Qatar’s Ministry of Interior to improve the monitoring and deployment of security and emergency responder vehicles.  Thorcom Systems was awarded this prestigious contract as it was the only company to offer full integration with both GPRS and TETRA.

Thorcom VLR200 vehicle locator units will be installed in every vehicle to transmit positional data to a single command centre in Dohar where all calls for police, fire and ambulance services are handled.  Thorcom Systems will install two Automatic Resource Location (ARL) Gateway servers in this centre, fully integrated with existing command and control systems, enabling vehicle location data to be received using GPS, GPRS and TETRA.  An additional two ARL Gateway servers will be installed in a back-up facility elsewhere in Qatar for resilience.

According to a spokesperson from the Qatari Ministry of Interior: “This contract is an important part of our long-term strategy to install the most technologically advanced emergency response networks.   The systems supplied by Thorcom will help us to determine the mobile resource that is best placed to respond in the shortest time and enable us to deliver the most effective response to incidents throughout the State of Qatar.”
