for more than 60.000 users, 2 switches and almost 200 base stations

Cassidian's TETRA network provided the Asian Games Organizing Committee with communications services during the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. Operational since April, the system catered to the security needs of all Asian Games-related facilities, including more than 100 competition and noncompetition venues as well as contracted hotels, starting with the 16th Asian Games inauguration held Nov. 12.

Covering the whole Guangzhou area, the network already served 45,000 users, including the municipal government, emergency response units, public security services and safety organizations, and utility companies. A full team of experts from Finland, France, Hong Kong and mainland China provided 24-hour daily on-site support to ensure that the network operated reliably and seamlessly. A record-breaking 2.2 million calls were made during the day of inauguration.

Collaboration between Cassidian, Chinese partner CETC-7 and the municipality of Guanghzou began with a contract signed in December 2009. The two partners were then commissioned to jointly provide an 800 MHz TETRA radio communications network for Guangzhou municipal government, operational in April. This network is the second-largest system of this kind built in China. Designed to provide more than 60,000 users with secure radio communications in an area exceeding 7,000 square kilometers, it comprises two switches and nearly 200 base stations.

The Asian Games is the world's second-largest sports event after the Olympic Games. The 16th Asian Games took place in Guangzhou, China, 12 - 27 November. Forty-one events were held among 14,700 athletes and team officials; 6,300 technology officials and umpires; 10,000 media staff; 60,000 volunteers; and 10,000 VIP guest from 45 countries.
