Motorola Solutions Posts Record Q2 Backlog as Mission Critical Networks Drive 13% Revenue Growth
Company raises full-year guidance and moves to acquire counter-drone specialist D-Fend Solutions for $1.5 billion
Motorola Solutions has reported second-quarter 2026 financial results marked by double-digit revenue growth and a record order backlog, underscoring sustained demand for mission-critical communications and public safety technology across North America and international markets.
The company posted revenue of $3.1 billion for the quarter, an increase of 13% compared to the same period last year. Growth was led by the Products and Systems Integration segment, which expanded 15% on the strength of Mission Critical Networks and Video Security and Access Control, while the Software and Services segment grew 10%, driven by Mission Critical Networks, Command Center and video offerings. The company closed the quarter with a backlog of $15.6 billion, up 11% year-over-year, reflecting continued investment by public safety agencies in land mobile radio infrastructure, video and command-and-control software.
Among the quarter's notable contract activity in the critical communications space were several major P25 systems and device orders, including a $52 million P25 systems contract and a $36 million P25 device and SVX order for U.S. federal customers, a $34 million P25 system upgrade for a U.S. state and local customer, and further P25 upgrades and device orders for St. Louis County, Missouri, Atlanta, Georgia, and Miami-Dade Corrections in Florida. On the software and services side, the company secured Command Center orders from the State of Montana Department of Justice and Hillsborough County, Florida, alongside mobile video contracts with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Kansas City Police Department.
The company also announced a definitive agreement to acquire D-Fend Solutions, a specialist in counter-drone technology, for $1.5 billion, extending its portfolio into airspace security as counter-UAS capability becomes an increasing priority for public safety and critical infrastructure operators.
"Q2 was exceptional across the board," said Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions. "This performance, along with record Q2 orders, is driving very strong momentum into the second half of this year."
Looking ahead, Motorola Solutions raised its full-year 2026 outlook, now projecting revenue of approximately $12.975 billion, up from its prior guidance of $12.8 billion, with non-GAAP earnings per share expected between $17.62 and $17.72. For the third quarter, the company anticipates revenue growth of approximately 8% year-over-year.
The company noted that global trade conditions, including tariff developments and elevated memory component costs linked to AI-driven demand, continue to be actively managed within its supply chain, though these dynamics have not materially altered its growth trajectory in the mission-critical communications sector.
