A new TETRA system is gone live in the South Africa city of Tshwane, one of the 2010 FIFA World Cup host cities. The contract was won by UNIMO and was being delivered using infrastructure from Rohill.

Tshwane is welcoming the world in style. The minister for Sports Recreation Arts and Culture, Khorombi Dau, said that the city is beginning to come alive with the distinctive red and orange branding of the tournament.

A total of 200 minibus taxis were branded in Tshwane 2010 colours, and bus shelters all over Tshwane carry the face of World Cup mascot Zakumi and the City of Champions message and around 90 buses are also newly branded for the tournament.

The upgrades to the Loftus Versfeld Stadium were mostly completed for the Confederations Cup 2009, but during the past 10 months the final touches have been done and all the 49,500 seats have been replaced. Super Stadium in Atteridgeville - now to be named Lucas Moripe Stadium - is now a world-class facility having already hosted numerous international matches.

Rohill is supplying 11 TETRA base stations, a redundant switching Node plus redundant E1 based telephone gateway, command and control centre. Initially, there will be 2000 users. The system will be used by officials in the police, fire and disaster management departments, as well as personnel in the electricity, water and sanitation departments. The TETRA system will also be in use on the city’s metro system.
