Protecting Public Safety Radio Networks: PCTEL Sets New Standard for BDA Commissioning Testing

Curated by: Gert Jan Wolf - Editor-in Chief for The Critical Communications Review

PCTEL recently announced a major upgrade available for the PCTEL® Public Safety Network Testing Solution. Their BDA Commissioning Test Suite now supports automated testing, grading, and reporting for all industry standard RF-based BDA commissioning tests.

This is the first comprehensive, practical solution to a critical problem for the public safety industry: how to ensure that bi-directional amplifiers (BDAs) which provide critical in-building coverage for First Responders don’t disrupt the overall public safety radio network.

There is a rapidly growing consensus in the public safety industry that performing a crucial set of BDA commissioning tests is the best solution. That’s why PCTEL's BDA Commissioning Test Suite supports all of the RF-based BDA commissioning tests recommended by BDA manufacturers and taught in the Safer Buildings Coalition’s industry-standard ERCES Handbook as well as ETA International’s Distributed Antenna Systems Technician (DAST) certification program.

PCTEL’s innovative approach to these tests simplifies the process for system integrators and radio system operators alike and is compatible with all industry-standard BDA and DAS systems. As in their award-winning grid-based testing solution, the tablet-based SeeHawk® Touch software and cloud-based SeeHawk Central automated workflow management platform work together to simplify the testing, grading, and approval process.

The BDA Commissioning Test Suite is now available as an option for new and existing PCTEL Public Safety Testing Solution kits. Existing owners of the BDA commissioning test with an active SeeHawk Touch maintenance subscription option can upgrade to the new Test Suite at no additional cost.

Radio system operators can receive, review, and track test results and even track building and BDA information for FREE in SeeHawk Central.
