RRF Deployment in Haute-Savoie Gains Local Backing

Agreement reflects the operational demands of a mountainous, tunnel-rich and heavily visited French department, and aims to build shared communications capability between road services and firefighters.

The Haute-Savoie Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 74) and the Haute-Savoie Departmental Council have signed a declaration of commitment in favour of deploying the Réseau Radio du Futur (RRF) across the department, with the support of ACMOSS, the agency responsible for the programme. The declaration was announced by ACMOSS on 1 October 2026 and is intended to underpin reliable, resilient operational communications for the department's public safety and road management stakeholders.

The RRF is France's next-generation mission-critical broadband communications network for public safety and rescue organisations. In Haute-Savoie, the signatories point to a set of local conditions that make dependable communications a particular priority: mountainous terrain, a dense road network, engineering structures and tunnels, and high levels of tourist traffic. These characteristics require operational communications that are not only reliable and resilient, but also suited to the realities faced by responders on the ground.

According to the announcement, the RRF is expected to support the modernisation of these communications and to strengthen the ability of the various stakeholders to communicate and coordinate their actions during interventions.

The declaration of commitment is structured around three objectives. The first is to strengthen the protection of the population. The second is to develop a shared capability for operational communication and cooperation between the departmental roads department and SDIS 74. The third is to prepare the emergency response of the future by drawing on experimentation and feedback from field experience.

Through the declaration, the Haute-Savoie Departmental Council and SDIS 74 affirm their determination to contribute to the deployment of the RRF and to establish the new infrastructure as a tool serving their operational missions. The approach has been framed as a long-term undertaking, with ACMOSS providing support throughout.

The agreement is a further example of local authorities and emergency services aligning around the national RRF programme, and of the growing emphasis on joint operational use of mission-critical broadband between public safety organisations and the road management bodies that work alongside them
