Germany Joins Efforts to Help Shape the European Critical Communication System

The focus of the EUCCS now shifts to finalising more detailed coordination, including technical elaboration — for example, on applications and workflows for future users.

This week, experts from across Europe are gathering in Brussels for the kick-off event of Phase 4 of EUCCS Preparation. The EUCCS Preparation programme supports the practical and technical implementation of the EUCCS project. This fourth project phase is scheduled to run for two years.

The project proposal for Phase 4 was recently approved by the European Commission. The focus now shifts to finalising more detailed coordination, including technical elaboration — for example, on applications and workflows for future users.

Stakeholders will be discussing, in particular, the planning of upcoming field trials during these days in Brussels. In these trials, cross-border teams carry out tests to simulate cross-border communication across various operational scenarios, evaluating the technology of selected industry partners under realistic conditions. The most recent major trial took place in Aschaffenburg in March 2026.

Germany, alongside other EU and Schengen states, is now actively joining Phase 4 to help shape EUCCS Preparation. BDBOS acts as the National Competent Authority for EUCCS and is therefore represented in Brussels this week, following developments as an active participant.
