SIRESP Training Cycle Reaches Figueira da Foz as Portugal's Network Operators Prepare for 2026 Rural Fire Season

Two-day session brings national TETRA network training total to approximately 450 operatives trained across six municipalities ahead of the Special Device for Fighting Rural Fires (DECIR) 2026.

The Figueira da Foz Fire Station hosted the latest instalment of Portugal's national training plan for the SIRESP network community on 21 and 22 August 2026, continuing a cycle of instruction designed to prepare emergency response personnel for the country's 2026 rural fire season.

The session was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIRESP, S.A., Lieutenant-General Paulo Viegas Nunes, alongside Councillor Manuel Domingues, representing the Mayor of Figueira da Foz, and Nuno Pinto, Commander of the Figueira da Foz Fire Brigade.

The Figueira da Foz session forms part of a training cycle that began on 23 July 2026 and has since covered six municipalities: Castelo Branco, Arganil, Entroncamento, Coimbra, Leiria and Figueira da Foz. Across these locations, approximately 450 operatives have been trained to date, drawn from City Councils, Parish Councils, Fire Departments, Security Forces and Services, Prison Services and the Portuguese Red Cross.

The training programme combines instruction in the general operating concepts of the TETRA-based SIRESP network with hands-on practice using network terminals and Dispatch Consoles, equipping participating organisations with the knowledge and operational skills required to use the network effectively during emergency response operations.

The cycle has been designed in direct support of Portugal's Special Device for Fighting Rural Fires (DECIR) 2026, reflecting the network's central role in coordinating multi-agency response to rural fire incidents across the country.
