Mobile Tornado Rolls Out Major TornadoCommander Update

New Release Strengthens Live Location Tracking, Voice Recording, Remote Device Management and Lone Worker Protection, Sharpening TornadoCommander's Position Against LMR and Consumer PTT Alternatives

Mobile Tornado has released what the company describes as the most significant update to TornadoCommander, its push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) dispatch console, since the platform's launch.

Announced on 6 August 2026, the update introduces eight new capabilities aimed at control rooms operating across transport, logistics, security, construction and public safety environments, and gives Mobile Tornado's reseller network several new grounds on which to approach existing customers about an upgrade.

The new features are grouped around four operational priorities: visibility, accountability, fleet control and worker safety.

On visibility, TornadoCommander now offers one-to-one live location tracking for individual users, moving beyond the group-level visibility that has typically defined PoC dispatch consoles. The update adds geofencing, allowing dispatchers to define a boundary and receive an automatic alert the moment a user crosses it, alongside built-in Google Maps support with the option to layer in custom or third-party mapping data relevant to a given site or operation.

For accountability, the console now includes voice recording and playback, captured and replayed directly within the dispatcher rather than through a separate recording platform. Mobile Tornado positions this as relevant to customers operating under compliance obligations, safety audits or incident-review processes, where the ability to replay exact communications is frequently a requirement.

On fleet control, dispatchers can now remotely manage connected devices, adjusting app volume, blocking push-to-talk, or signing a user out of a device without needing physical access to the handset. A remote camera access feature has also been added, giving dispatchers a live view through a device's camera to support situational awareness during an incident.

The update further extends TornadoCommander's Lone Worker protection, which is now fully configurable and assignable directly within the dispatcher, removing the need for a separate application or system to manage lone worker safety alongside day-to-day communications.

Mobile Tornado has framed the release as a way of sharpening TornadoCommander's position relative to the alternatives customers typically evaluate alongside it. Against traditional two-way radio and LMR-based consoles, the company points to the addition of individual live location tracking, geofencing and remote device management as capabilities not found in conventional radio systems. Against consumer-grade PTT applications such as Zello, it highlights recording, remote camera access and built-in lone worker protection as features aimed at operational accountability rather than communication alone. Against other PoC dispatch consoles, Mobile Tornado argues that unifying location tracking, device control and lone worker safety within a single dispatcher, rather than relying on third-party integrations, represents a meaningfully different proposition.

The update has already drawn endorsement from customers using the platform.

Mobile Tornado said existing TornadoCommander customers will gain access to the updated dispatcher, though it has advised resellers to confirm rollout timing and any plan-tier requirements directly with the company before raising the update with their own customers. Mobile Tornado plans to publish more detailed walkthroughs of the individual features over the coming weeks, beginning with location tracking and mapping, and is offering resellers the option to book a short walkthrough covering all eight new capabilities.
