BDBOS Accelerates Performance of Federal Networks with HEAT Encryption Upgrade
This latest development underscores BDBOS’s continued dedication to enhancing the performance, resilience and security of the federal networks across Germany to meet the evolving requirements of mission-critical communications.
BDBOS, the operator of the German Public Safety Critical Communications (TETRA) network has announced a significant enhancement to the performance of the federal government’s communications networks, further strengthening secure and reliable connectivity for public safety authorities and institutions.
Every day, BDBOS continues to modernise the federal networks to ensure that users can communicate seamlessly via data exchange, voice services, and video conferencing on a sovereign, securely operated infrastructure. This endeavour’s central element is the optimisation of encryption technologies, which are key to protecting all transmitted data.
During the course of this project, the encryption software developed by Secunet has been successfully enhanced. The new HEAT feature provides significantly increased encryption speed, while still maintaining the highest security standards. Deployed across more than a thousand crypto components, the updated software—combined with new, more powerful hardware in the NdB connections—creates the foundation for substantially increased bandwidth for network users.
The new software was rolled out nationally ahead of schedule, showing BDBOS’s commitment to improving the network quickly and effectively. Following this progress, the agency has already begun the next phase: the gradual replacement of entire NdB connections. These upgrades will allow for significantly higher bandwidths and faster transmission of large amounts of data.
Important federal players like the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) have already completed initial rollouts and are now running at double-digit gigabit speeds.
This latest development underscores BDBOS’s continued dedication to enhancing the performance, resilience and security of the federal networks across Germany to meet the evolving requirements of mission-critical communications.
