An official business delegation from Shenzhen, a leading economic centre in Southern China, is currently in Bahrain on a visit to discuss means of strengthening investment and trade co-operation and explore opportunities.

The delegation participated in a business forum organised by the Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).

Discussions were led by senior officials at the EDB and the BCCI, as well as the representatives from the Economic and Commercial Councillor's Office of the Chinese Embassy in Bahrain.

This visit follows a trip led by His Majesty King Hamad in September last year to China during which His Majesty met the Premier of China's State Council Li Keqiang and discussed growing bilateral relations.

The delegation is led by: Trade and Information Commission of Shenzhen Municipality deputy director for economy Gao Lin, Shenzhen Economy, Trade and Information Commission deputy director Fan Lixia, and Shenzhen Foreign Affairs Office deputy director Zhang Lin.

Chinese companies represented include: Hytera, a manufacturer of radio transceivers and radio systems; ZTE, a multinational telecommunications equipment and systems company; and Huawei, a multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company whose GCC regional headquarters is located in Bahrain.

"It is a great pleasure to welcome the delegation from Shenzhen to Bahrain," Transportation Minister and EDB acting chief executive Kamal Ahmed said.

"Such high-level visits between Bahrain and China have contributed to support the bilateral economic and trade relationship between the two countries including a delegation led by His Majesty last year.

"We hope that the Bahrain-Shenzhen Economic and Trade Promotion Seminar will help to ensure that many more Chinese companies can enjoy the opportunities available for investors in Bahrain, and the easy access from Bahrain to the Gulf's growing $1.5 trillion market."

A number of leading Chinese companies including Bank of China, China Harbour Engineering, Beijing Jangho Curtain Wall and Daily Wealth are already in Bahrain.
