Loire SDIS: Driving Force in the Deployment of France’s Radio Network of the Future
The Loire Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS 42) has emerged as a pioneering force in the nationwide rollout of the Radio Network of the Future (RRF), a next-generation platform designed to enhance critical communications across France’s emergency and security services. Alongside the Bouches-du-Rhône department, Loire is serving as a pilot region to test and validate the operational use of the RRF.
This leadership role was highlighted during interdepartmental exercises held on August 21 and 22, 2025, which brought together firefighters, emergency medical services, gendarmes, and both national and municipal police forces. Coordinated under prefectural and regional oversight, the exercises demonstrated the interoperability, efficiency, and reliability of the RRF under real-world conditions.
The RRF is deployed under the national coordination of the Agency for Mobile and Operational Communications for Security and Rescue (ACMOSS). Operated continuously, the system ensures secure access to 4G and 5G networks through national roaming and prioritized communications across the networks of Orange and Bouygues Télécom. Its Syrius mobile and dispatcher applications enable seamless interdepartmental communications, supporting the exchange of geolocation data, voice, images, and video between emergency services and law enforcement agencies, with additional interoperability provided via the STORM system.
By offering high-speed, resilient, and secure connectivity, the RRF is designed to meet the stringent requirements of field operations. Its implementation supports improved coordination during crises, faster response times, and enhanced protection for both personnel and the public.
As a central component of France’s public safety modernization, the RRF marks a significant step forward in building a robust and future-ready communications infrastructure. Continuous feedback from frontline users such as Loire SDIS is ensuring that the system evolves in line with operational needs, driving innovation across the country’s security and rescue services.
