RideOnTrack and Funkwerk Systems Showcase FRMCS Interoperability in Belgium Workshop

RideOnTrack and Funkwerk Systems GmbH recently hosted a successful joint workshop at RideOnTrack’s Technology Center in Geel, Belgium, focusing on the real-world implementation of Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS). The event brought together industry leaders from Infrabel, ProRail, and NMBS-SNCB to explore next-generation railway communication solutions.

Attendees experienced live demonstrations of RideOnTrack’s MCX/FRMCS Client SDK, including real-time FRMCS calls between RideOnTrack’s dispatcher and Funkwerk Systems’ onboard cab radios. The workshop highlighted fully operational MCPTT and MCData services, as well as the benefits of an open, scalable, and secure design for mission-critical environments.

Key takeaways included strong interoperability between the two companies’ systems and productive discussions on FRMCS deployment roadmaps, spectrum usage, and the transition from GSM-R. Funkwerk Systems presented their FRMCS Gateway, radio modules, and 5G antennas, while participants shared strategies and challenges for FRMCS adoption in Belgium and the Netherlands.
