Curated by: Gert Jan Wolf - Editor-in Chief for The Critical Communications Review

Last weekend it was time for the Defcon.1 Weekend Festival, the world's biggest harder styles festival, known for its incredible line-up and unparalleled endshows. This year, the festival celebrated its 20th edition.

The event took place on the 'Holy Grounds' at Walibi Holland, a major events ground that hosts a varity of large scale events and was originally developed by Scouting Netherlands for the 1994 European Jamboree and the 1995 World Jamboree.

After a build-up period of 3 weeks, 4 full festival days followed, with 65,000 people celebrating every day. For R&S, a leading radio communications supplier based in The Netherlands and specialized in large event communications such a Pinkpop and the Rotterdam Marathon, this is one of the largest communication projects.

R&S supplied Defcon.1 with more than 1,100 Motorola Solutions TETRA radios, to be used by the organizer Q-dance to enable staff and security with reliable and robust communications.
