IHM to Deliver Radio Communications for The Norwegian Northern Light Carbon Storage Project

Carbon capture is the bright future for accelerating decarbonization, and a great deal of projects are in place and others in scope. One of these projects, is The Norwegian Northern Light carbon storage project.

For this project, reliable communications between vessels and onshore personnel is of the essence.

In order to enable flexible and reliable communications between vessels and onshore personnel, project management picked, IHM's IP Flexible solution. The VoIP solution provides efficient communication as the system enables remote control of repeaters/base stations and radios. The solution offers many features such as dispatching, two-way communication, conference calls, individual calls and voice recording.

To ensure the highest reliability, redundant servers are part of the design.

Futureproof
The IHM IP Flexible is a standard (COTS) system in the product line Plug ‘N’ Play entailing the Basic, Small and Medium standard systems. Regardless of system size, the solution chosen can always be expanded for additional operator workstations and/or radios and base stations. Also, the number of applications e.g., PA, PABX, PoC units, alarms can be connected to the system.

The Northern Lights project, led by Equinor, Shell, and Total, is part of the Norwegian full-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) project “Langskip (Longship),” supported by the Norwegian government.
