Entel Annonces New ATIS Portable Radios for Inland Waterways
Entel has announced that its expanding portfolio of products now includes the DX644/ATIS and ATIS variants of its DT844 and DT944 radios. ATIS refers to the Automatic Transmitter Identification System, which is utilized in various countries across mainland Europe to ensure safe navigation on significant rivers such as the Rhine and the Danube.
The process involves transmitting an FFSK data signal at the conclusion of each transmission. This signal conveys information about the vessel, including its unique call sign, and is monitored by marine coast stations that track the vessel’s location.
Entel’s ATIS radios, as anticipated, share the same IP68 submersibility rating (2 m, 4 hours) as the other models in the DX and DTEx range. They also feature Lithium-Ion battery technology and a high contrast white on black OLED display. The DX and DTEx Series have become firmly established in the global marine sector, known for their reliability and user-friendly design.
Special licensing arrangements are in place for ATIS radios, coordinated through the Belgium Institute of Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT) and managed by local regulatory authorities, such as OFCOM in the UK. Users of ATIS must submit their name, vessel name, vessel call sign, and MMSI number to their local regulatory body to obtain a Notice of Variation for their licence.
This serves as additional evidence of Entel’s dedication to the marine market sector through a robust range of products. Our new DX644/ATIS, DT844, and DT944 ATIS models enhance the existing offerings of VHF, UHF, GMDSS, and I.S. models within the submersible DX and DTEx Series.
