JVCKENWOOD USA and EFJohnson Realign their Critical Communications Platforms.

JVCKENWOOD USA (JKUSA) and EF Johnson Technologies (EFJohnson) recently announced a business restructure, with EFJohnson focusing on P25 technology and JKUSA spearheading NXDN and DMR deployments and housing Kenwood Integrated Solutions.

JVCKENWOOD USA Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark Jasin said the restructuring gives JKUSA and EFJohnson a “clearer definition of purpose” to compete in the land-mobile-radio (LMR) market.

Jasin stated:

“The separation really is the technologies and markets that are being targeted. EF Johnson will continue to specialize in conventional P25 trunking for public safety. JKUSA will focus on NXDN and DMR 2.0, 2.5, and 3. Education, hospitality, general business-industrial, and rural public safety will remain JVCKENWOOD USA's target markets."

“Putting technology and markets within each company helps us compete with our primary competitors.”

EF Johnson Technologies, a JVCKENWOOD firm, will remain the “center of excellence for P25,” according to chief revenue officer Mitch Urbanczyk.

EFJohnson CEO Duane Anderson concurred.

Anderson stated that “EFJohnson is better positioned than ever to deliver unified, P25-based solutions that serve the mission-critical needs of public safety professionals” after this strategic realignment. At JVCKENWOOD's P25 Center of Excellence, we bring innovation, reliability, and systemwide resilience that our customers can trust—day in and day out.

In the new organizational alignment, EFJohnson no longer sells NEXEDGE technology, but it expects to enable KENWOOD Viking 8000 series radio clients integrate NXDN for P25 interoperability, Urbanczyk said.

In an interview with IWCE's Urgent Communications, Urbanczyk said that if a customer—such as paramedics or a hospital—deployed NXDN and needed to communicate with a public-safety agency that used P25, the agency could use the VP8000 with the NXDN protocol to communicate with the medical staff on NXDN and vice versa.
