Crosscall Receives SNCF Supplier Award for Smartphone Durability in Circular Economy Category
French rugged smartphone manufacturer recognised by Groupe SNCF following a partnership that has equipped more than 24,000 SNCF Voyageurs agents since 2019.
Crosscall has been presented with the SNCF Supplier Award in the “Circular Economy” category by Groupe SNCF, in recognition of the durability, robustness and reliability of its smartphones. The award follows a partnership between the two organisations that began in 2019 with SNCF’s first adoption of Crosscall devices. Crosscall now equips more than 24,000 SNCF Voyageurs agents with the STELLAR-X5 smartphone for ticket control, customer service and passenger security missions across France.
Crosscall has positioned sustainability as a core element of its strategic choices, supported by concrete and measurable commitments. These include a five-year warranty and a ten-year repairability commitment, both intended to deliver robust and reliable products for users who depend on them daily. According to the company, the award comes eight years after these strategic decisions were taken and reflects their impact. SNCF selected Crosscall specifically for the durability and reliability of its devices.
For SNCF Voyageurs agents, the permanent availability of their equipment is essential. Their devices must perform reliably in the demanding conditions of high-mobility, daily operations.
The partnership has delivered tangible results. By reducing the breakage rate and considerably extending the average lifespan of the terminals, SNCF has avoided a complete fleet renewal cycle. Over the last six years, the choice of Crosscall has enabled the rail group to save more than €10 million, while also reducing its carbon impact. Around 80 per cent of a smartphone’s carbon footprint originates from its manufacture, which makes extended device life a significant lever for emissions reduction.
The circular approach continues beyond the first period of service. STELLAR-X5 terminals are reconditioned and then returned to the market at a more affordable price, giving the devices a second life.
Cyril Vidal, founder of Crosscall, described the award as the product of collective effort.
“I would like to warmly thank all of SNCF’s purchasing, operational and technical teams, who have been able to work closely with the Crosscall teams over the years. This success is above all the result of a collective commitment, mutual trust and a shared ambition: to put sustainability and technological reliability at the service of operational performance. We are extremely proud of this partnership and the concrete results it has achieved.”
