ProPhone Service Bridges Broadband EDR and TETRA Networks in Hungary

Pro-M's exclusive service ensures seamless group communication interoperability as the EDR network opens to public infrastructure

Starting in August 2026, the nationwide Hungarian broadband EDR network will enable users to directly reach subscribers on domestic public mobile and fixed-line networks. This development marks a significant milestone: the previously closed, "island-like" emergency communication system has evolved into a network integrated with Hungary's broader telecommunications infrastructure.

The significance of this shift is that a single mobile device now supports traditional emergency group communication, broadband data transmission, and internet access, as well as voice and SMS communication with Hungary’s public mobile networks. For users, this translates to fewer communication constraints in their daily work, simpler and faster connectivity, and a wider range of devices better suited to their specific tasks.

Seamless and secure group communication interoperability between the broadband EDR system and the traditional Airbus narrowband TETRA system is ensured by the ProPhone service—provided exclusively by Pro-M—guaranteeing full collaboration between users of the two systems.

This development builds on a series of earlier steps: Pro-M launched its network with the ProPhone service in February 2025, initially offering data transmission and internet access; voice and SMS capabilities within the EDR network were introduced in October of that year; and this was followed in August of this year by the newly announced opening to public networks.
