Under the new approach, customers can verify the authenticity of their Icom equipment by scanning a QR code on the serial number seal affixed to the product.

Icom Inc. has announced the successful completion of its enhanced genuine product authentication system, fulfilling a commitment made in September 2024 to strengthen countermeasures against counterfeit products in global markets.

The Japanese radio manufacturer has replaced its previous hologram sticker authentication method with a QR code-based system, which has been applied to all applicable products shipped from October 2025 onwards. The company confirmed that the enhanced system is now operating stably.

Under the new approach, customers can verify the authenticity of their Icom equipment by scanning a QR code on the serial number seal affixed to the product. The authentication website displays confirmation of genuineness alongside a full access history, including the number of times the code has been scanned and the date and time of the most recent access. This mechanism is designed to expose counterfeit products bearing copied QR codes, as an unusually high scan count will alert users to potential fraud.

Icom has also cautioned that imitation authentication websites have been identified in the market, and advises users to verify that any authentication URL begins with https://genuine.icom.co.jp/.
Products carrying the legacy hologram stickers that remain in distribution channels continue to be genuine Icom products. The company notes that both authentication methods will coexist in the market during the transition period, and that any product purchased through an authorised dealer may be used with confidence.

To support broader awareness, multilingual leaflets covering the new authentication measures in English, Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian are now included with applicable products.
