ARCIA Welcomes ACMA Crackdown on Illegal Radiocommunications Devices
The Australian Radio and Critical Communications Industry Association (ARCIA) has welcomed the continued efforts of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to reduce the online sale of non-compliant and illegal radiocommunications devices. ARCIA has cautioned that such equipment can interfere with critical communications networks and, in some cases, disrupt access to emergency services.
ACMA's latest compliance audit recorded a 69 percent reduction in illegal and non-compliant device listings since the 2024–25 audit, a result the association has linked to sustained collaboration between industry and regulator, together with ongoing education and compliance initiatives across the sector.
ARCIA has reiterated its support for ACMA's broader work to strengthen equipment compliance and is encouraging online platforms that supply communications devices to join the Equipment Safety Pledge.
The association regards wider adoption of the pledge as an important step in protecting the integrity of Australia's communications networks and safeguarding the safety of the community.
ARCIA said it would continue to work alongside ACMA and industry partners to build on the findings of the latest audit as efforts to remove non-compliant devices from the Australian market continue.
