Garry Diack: New CEO of Tait Communications
Leading hi-tech export company Tait Communications has named Christchurch businessman Garry Diack as its new chief executive. Diack is an existing director of Tait and is also chairman of Mercer Group, another company with Christchurch connections
He stepped into the role today, taking over from acting chief executive David Wade and previous chief executive Frank Owen, who resigned from Tait earlier this year for personal reasons earlier this year to return to Europe.
Diack was previously the interim chief executive of Solid Energy, after Don Elder stepped down in February 2013 when the company's financial problems deepened.
Diack completed his stint with the state-owned miner in July with Dan Clifford, an Australian, taking over the chief executive role.
Wade stays on at Tait Communications both in an existing director role and as a member of the executive.
Tait has traditionally designed and made portable and vehicle-based radios, mostly for export, selling to emergency service and utilities-based organisations.
The company, with about 200 staff overseas and 500 in New Zealand, has annual revenues are in the order of $160 million-$170m.
