The multimillion dollar 3-meter semi-anechoic chamber enables compliance with certifications and standards.

Tait Communications, a global leading supplier of critical communications solutions, has invested in a state-of-the-art 3-meter semi-anechoic chamber, enabling compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other certifications and standards. The chamber also increases the scope of accreditation for the company’s laboratory in the future.

Unique to New Zealand

The multi-million-dollar test laboratory is located about 250 meters from Tait Communications’ main Christchurch campus and replaced a previous outdoor testing site. The laboratory houses EMC, RF test and Project 25 (P25) Compliance Assessment Program (CAP) equipment, along with a new German-made Frankonia SAC-3 Plus 3-meter semi-anechoic chamber.

The chamber has specific test capabilities not currently available elsewhere in New Zealand. Measuring 6 meters high, 9 meters long, and 6 meters wide, the dome-shaped chamber enables Tait to test a wide range of equipment using the latest communication technologies. Tait Communications plans to upgrade the facility to support testing of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz emissions testing in the near future.

Addressing Evolving Global Standards

In addition to FCC certifications and P25 CAP compliance and approvals, the investment safeguards accreditation for Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) authorization as well as supporting the latest European Telecommunications and Standards Institute (ETSI) standards applicable to the company’s products. Evolving standards mean testing must now be conducted in a controlled indoor chamber to shield devices under testing from external interference. The facility has been re-certified with the FCC and ISED, with accreditation through May 2028.

“The investment made in Tait’s new semi-anechoic chamber is consistent with the company’s steadfast adherence to industry certifications and standards,” said Yoram Benit, PhD, Tait Communications CEO and Managing Director. “This distinctive compliance and certification capability will benefit the electronic industry globally and in New Zealand, as well as contribute to Tait’s continued growth.”
