FirstNet Strengthens Public Safety Connectivity Across America's 250th Anniversary Celebrations
T&T's dedicated public safety network deploys expanded infrastructure and dedicated spectrum to support first responders during the nation's largest commemorative events.
FirstNet, Built with AT&T, is providing enhanced connectivity support to more than 75 public safety agencies across the United States as the country marks the 250th anniversary of its founding this week. The network operator has fielded over 75 requests from public safety agencies for additional support ahead of celebrations ranging from local parades to major national gatherings, according to information published on the AT&T corporate news site.
The FirstNet Response Operations Group (ROG), staffed by former first responders, is coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies to position portable cell sites at Emergency Operations Centers and other high-traffic locations, providing redundancy during periods of peak network demand.
Among the largest events being supported is America's 250th Anniversary Maritime Celebration, known as Sail250, which brings together tall ships and military vessels across coastal states including Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia. To support this and other major anniversary events, FirstNet is deploying more than 20 Satellite Cell on Light Trucks (SatCOLTs) and Compact Rapid Deployables (CRDs) from its dedicated fleet, alongside additional LEO Cell Trailers drawn from AT&T's wider commercial deployable asset fleet of over 750 units, aimed at easing network congestion in high-density areas.
Additional capacity is being directed toward Washington, D.C., where an AT&T commercial fleet Super COW has been positioned on the National Mall ahead of anticipated high-traffic 250th anniversary events, supplementing coverage for thousands of first responders expected to be on duty in the capital.
FirstNet's dedicated Band 14 spectrum continues to underpin the network's public safety offering, providing connectivity that is separated from general commercial traffic when required. The operator maintains that FirstNet remains the only U.S. network carrying a mandate never to throttle public safety data traffic, and the only network maintaining a dedicated fleet of more than 190 portable connectivity assets reserved exclusively for public safety use.
Scott Agnew, President of FirstNet at AT&T, said the network was "keeping public safety ready for celebrations of every size" as agencies prepare for events spanning hometown gatherings to major fireworks displays, concerts, and landmark commemorations.
The anniversary deployments follow similar FirstNet support efforts already underway for international soccer matches and fan events across the country this summer. AT&T has indicated that further preparations are in progress to support professional auto racing events in Washington, D.C., as well as ongoing disaster-response readiness in the months ahea
