PMeV supports EU Initiative for European Critical Communications Systems (EUCCS)
Strengthening cross-border cooperation between emergency and rescue services
On the occasion of the “Critical Communications World” (CCW) trade fair, taking place in London from June 16 to 18, 2026, the Bundesverband Professioneller Mobilfunk e.V. (PMeV) emphasizes the importance of a high-performance and interoperable European eco-system for mission-critical communication solutions. It supports the European Union’s concept of a “European Critical Communication System” (EUCCS).
Bernhard Klinger, Chairman of the PMeV Board of Management emphasizes:
“In an increasingly interconnected European security architecture, we need high-performance and interoperable communication solutions that combine national sovereignty with European cooperation. EUCCS is a key component for establishing cross-border, future-proof critical communications.”
Greater interoperability strengthens resilience
The aim of the EUCCS is to enable an interoperable “system of systems” in the field of critical communications, in order to ensure cross-border cooperation between emergency and rescue services – such as the police, fire services and civil protection – through modern professional mobile networks. For this purpose, minimum technical requirements, common standards and interoperable applications are to be defined at European level. At the same time, both operation and operative responsibility remain in the hands of the member states.
BDBOS and GdP also support EUCCS
From the PMeV’s perspective, this approach offers an opportunity to effectively combine tried-and-tested national structures with European interoperability. At the same time, it can support the gradual transition from narrowband to broadband communication solutions. The EUCCS is intended to create a technical and regulatory framework for this, with a view to enabling broadband solutions for critical communications that can be deployed across Europe. In its advocacy for the EUCCS, the PMeV is in agreement with the Federal Agency for Digital Radio of Authorities and
Organizations with Security Tasks (BDBOS) and the Police Union (GdP). The BDBOS states:
“With the EUCCS, the European umbrella system for mission-critical communications, there will be a fantastic opportunity for cross-border communication. We want to play a part in shaping this so that our emergency services get what they need.”
The Police Union (GdP), a member of the PMeV, is also closely monitoring developments. Alexander Poitz, Deputy Federal Chairman of the GdP, emphasizes:
“At a time when criminal organizations and hybrid threats do not know any borders, the security authorities of the EU Member States still operate largely in national silos when it comes to communications technology. EUCCS is an important step towards the communications of the future.”
The initiatives associated with EUCCS are directly aligned with the vision and mission of the PMeV. The association is committed to a secure, resilient and connected Europe through the promotion of secure communication solutions. As the voice for secure, mission-critical and business-critical communication solutions, the PMeV is dedicated to innovation, harmonization and open standards as well as the support of new technological developments.
