The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency to Test 5G with VGR, and the Swedish Transport Administration

Tests will be done with VGR's SIM card and vice versa with SIM cards from MSB and the Swedish Transport Administration in existing radio and core network infrastructures.

The Västra Götaland Region (VGR), the Swedish Transport Administration and the Swedish Agency for Community Safety and Preparedness (MSB) are in the starting pits to connect their 5G networks.

The Västra Götaland Region (VGR), the Swedish Transport Administration and the Swedish Agency for Community Safety and Preparedness (MSB) are currently looking at the possibilities of connecting their respective 5G networks. This would enable MSB and the Swedish Transport Administration's connected devices (mobile phones, computers, etc.) to be able to use VGR's 5G network and vice versa.

The main goal of this technology collaboration is a common understanding of what challenges can arise and how they can be minimized in order to achieve a seamless experience for end users, who move between VGR's, MSB's and Trafikverket's different coverage areas.

Tests will be done with VGR's SIM card and vice versa with SIM cards from MSB and the Swedish Transport Administration in existing radio and core network infrastructures. The first tests will begin in the second quarter of 2024.

This news follows the announcement from February, when we announced that the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) has procured a 5G core network from Ericsson to develop Rakel G2, Sweden’s critical communications network for public safety and emergency services including national defense purposes.
