According to information presented this week to the LA-RICS Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) board, the bord expects to finish the final-acceptance stage of its Project 15 (P25) system next month after more than a decade of work.

Motorola Solutions (MSI), the LMR network vendor, requested that the LA-RICS P25 system's final acceptance be delayed until December from 2020. LA-RICS officials opposed December, but Motorola Solutions agreed to Nov. 17 as the final acceptance date.

“MSI has submitted a request for a 21-calendar-day time extension that moves the Final Acceptance date from October 26, 2023, to November 17, 2023,” according to an agenda item in the LA-RICS JPA board meeting on Tuesday. “This is a 33-day improvement over the previously forecasted date of December 20, 2023.”

P25 system final acceptance is now scheduled for Nov. 17, according to LA-RICS Executive Director Scott Edson.

In an IWCE Urgent Communications interview, Edson claimed, “The LA-RICS system has had numerous subsystems accepted, is working flawlessly, and we’ll have full system acceptance on Nov. 17, 2023.” We're connecting additional regional systems to make them interoperable.

Edson said the Interagency Communications Interoperability (ICI) system and future City of Los Angeles Police Department P25 network are other regional radio networks that could be part of this interoperable project.
