NZTA Selects Crash Analysis System from Intergraph® and Partners

The New Zealand Transport Agency has selected Intergraph® along with partners Unisys and e-Spatial to provide a nationwide Crash Analysis System (CAS)

The CAS solution will assist road planners, analysts and engineers with planning and design of the national road infrastructure.

Under prime contractor Unisys, Intergraph will design and build the solution, which will feature Intergraph’s EdgeFrontier and Hexagon Geospatial’s Geospatial Portal. The solution will enable the Transport Agency to map, analyze and report crash data to identify trends and support safety improvement programs.

“This innovative solution will support road safety initiatives and help to reduce crashes throughout New Zealand,” said Stephen Willson, New Zealand country manager, Intergraph Security, Government &Infrastructure. “We are excited to provide this innovative solution along with prime contractor Unisys and partner e-Spatial.”

The Transport Agency’s CAS is used to capture and analyze information about road crashes to determine the cause of individual crashes as well as to identify trends and contributing factors like high speed or road curvature. Previously New Zealand Police would record key crash information on paper and that information was then later manually entered into the CAS. The new solution will leverage the police’s investment in mobile technology, which includes Intergraph’s Mobile Responder, to capture the data electronically while at the scene.

“By modernizing and automating the Crash Analysis System, we will be able to capture and share key data more quickly, allowing the Transport Agency to better analyze trends, prioritize changes to road conditions designed to prevent future crashes and assess if previous interventions have been successful in making roads safer for New Zealand drivers,” said Rachel Leamy, manager CAS, New Zealand Transport Agency. “As this information is of interest to other agencies and entities such as local councils and insurance agencies, the open platform will enable the CAS to be more easily integrated with other systems, allowing for more detailed big data analysis.”

Unisys will host the CAS in its Auckland data center and deliver the solution to the Transport Agency via a Software-as-a-Service model within a private cloud environment. Unisys will also provide service desk support for users.
