The South Korean government confirmed its pubic-safety Long Term Evolution (PS-LTE) public protection and disaster recovery (PPDR) network frequency band as 718 – 728 MHz uplink and 773 – 783 MHz downlink.

This is band 28, which is the standard frequency for the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) band plan known as APT-700.

700 Mhz band

Already In July, the South Korean government adopted plans to build a broadband network dedicated to public safety using LTE technology to be deployed nationwide by 2017. The plan calls for 20 megahertz of dedicated spectrum in the 700 MHz band. The specific frequencies had not been defined until last week.

Following a request for proposals (RFP) process, the government selected LG CNS to create the information strategy plan (ISP). Three companies submitted bids for the ISP contract, including Korea Telecom, SK C&C and LG CNS.

The ISP draft result will be announced in December, said Dujeong Choi, Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) of South Korea. The ISP will address many important questions, including expected cost, network site specifics and vendor involvement.
