Over 75 attendees heard presentations from experts in all the various fields covering a wide range of topics relevant to critical communications applications for LTE

Now in its 10th year, LTE World Summit returned to Amsterdam 23-25 June this year and attracted circa 3,500 attendees to see and hear from almost 150 exhibitors and 300 speakers spanning the whole global LTE ecosystem.

Reflecting the continued evolution and development of LTE markets worldwide, the ‘Public Safety Stream’ once again featured strongly at the event. Introducing the stream, Tony Gray, Chair of the TCCA’s Critical Communications Broadband Group, highlighted the fact that the market for LTE in critical applications is not limited to public safety, but in fact spans a wide range of mission and business critical users, including utilities, transportation and other vital infrastructure operators.

Over 75 attendees heard presentations from experts in all the various fields covering a wide range of topics relevant to critical communications applications for LTE, including:

The business case, and potential risks and benefits, for public mobile operators to provide critical LTE services.

  • Developments in, and the roadmap for, standardization of critical LTE features.
  • Implementation model options for future critical LTE services.
  • Spectrum issues and options
  • The utility use case for critical communications
  • A device manufacturer’s view of the critical LTE market

Closing the stream at the end of an interesting and stimulating session, Tony Gray highlighted the timescales involved with the comment: “Now we see why LTE actually stands for Long Term Employment – see you all here again next year!”
