Tait and Finmeccanica-Selex ES complete DMR Tier 2 interoperability testing
Both global leaders in the design, deployment and support of critical communications solutions, have successfully completed Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) interoperability testing for their Tier 2 equipment.
The DMR Association has awarded the Interoperability (IOP) Certificate following comprehensive, formal verified testing of Tait DMR Tier 2 9300 terminals with the Finmeccanica - Selex ES ES ECOS-D RGW4000 base station.
Tait Regional Marketing Manager, Jamie Bishop, says, “The successful IOP certification of the DMR Tier 2 solution is a significant step in our strategy to expand our product portfolio. This result offers clients evidence that they can access a business critical conventional DMR solution, which is truly open standards based.”
Bishop adds: “Following the recent release of our DMR Tier 3 trunked radio solution and the launch of our 9300 Tier 2-ready terminals at the end of 2013, we are pleased that thanks to our partnership with Finmeccanica - Selex ES, we are now able to offer a complete DMR Tier 2 solution for reliable, secure and effective communications.”
The Finmeccanica - Selex ES ECOS-D base station is designed to enable a controlled migration from an existing conventional analogue to a new digital DMR Tier 2 network. It can provide both single-site and simulcast DMR Tier 2 solutions, as well as multi-site simulcast and cellular DMR Tier 3 solutions.

Finmeccanica - Selex ES can also provide multi-technology integrated communication systems through its unique IP-based CSP platform to fulfill the most demanding user’s functional requirements, in terms of users, bandwidth, coverage and flexibility.
The Tait 9300 terminals offer clients a flexible and easy pathway to a digital solution because they can operate in analogue conventional, MPT1327, DMR Tier 2 and DMR Tier 3 modes.
Mr. Bishop says, “What this means for our clients is that if they are running an analogue system today, they can use our terminals and get many of the benefits that typically only come with a full digital solution. Then, when they choose to migrate to digital, a simple software update is all that’s required to fully enable the terminals for tri mode with Tier 2, or quad mode for Tier 3.”
The Tier 2 testing follows the DMR Association’s Interoperability Process, which adheres to defined testing processes, criteria and methodologies. Certificates of Interoperability and test summaries for the completed test session, along with details on the DMR Association IOP process, are now available on the DMR Association website.
