Simoco Supports Scootarbor Challenge in Australia

Source: MCCResources

Simoco has announced it will be providing critical communications support to fundraising event Scootarbor Challenge in Australia in September.

The event involves a group of Australians aged 65 and over travelling across the Nullarbor Plain on Piaggio Typhoon 50cc motor scooters, raising money and awareness for mental health charity beyondblue.

Simoco is supporting the event by donating a radio communications system, which will enable the riders to communicate with the three convoy support vehicles as they make their way from Port Augusta to Fremantle via the Eyre Highway. In total the participants will travel around 2,400km through largely remote and treeless landscapes, meaning that critical communications will be vital in the event of an emergency.

Ian Jacobsen, the chief organiser behind the event, said: “We’re delighted that Simoco has offered to provide us with a communications system for the event. Having radio contact on the long trek is vital for safety and co-ordination of the riders, support vehicles and the wider team.”

Robert Meachem, general manager of Simoco Australasia commented: “This is great local event that raises money for a very worthy cause. We are pleased that we are able to support the charity as well as those taking part.” The Scootarbor challenge runs from 6th-24th September.
