Tait Communications scoring in Brazil

Christchurch technology company Tait Communications has been scoring goals behind the scenes in Brazil.

Chief marketing officer James Kyd said the World Cup and Brazil's hosting of the 2016 Olympics had been the catalyst for the radio communications company winning several multimillion-dollar contracts with Brazilian police over the past two years. "Brazil has been looking at how it builds up its safety structure for tourists as well as for people attending the games."

Kyd said a new arrangement under which it is remotely monitoring a digital radio network it installed in and around the Mineirao Stadium in Belo Horizonte, from its service centre in Texas, was a good example of the way forward for the company.

Belo Horizonte is Brazil's third largest metropolis and the stadium will host the first World Cup semifinal on Wednesday.

"We can make sure the network is performing as expected, that communications are flowing and potentially pre-empt any bottlenecks. Police saw that as a critical thing during the World Cup."

Kyd said Tait expected to increase its revenues this year.
