Dutch government has no control over its IT projects

Source: MCCResources

The government has insufficient control over its IT projects, including the costs and effectiveness. This is the main conclusion of the temporary governmental committee IT projects. One of the projects mentioned is the C2000 Public Safety TETRA network.

Recently, five members of the Lower House, led by Ton Elias (VVD), have researched projects and questioned witnesses during the past months.

The report of the committee, published on October 15th, explores seven large IT projects, including the OV-chip card and C2000. It is estimated that each year 1 to 5 billion euros was not well spent or even wasted. One of the recommendations is that a temporary IT Authority investigates all ongoing projects. Also, the Lower House should be acting more seriously in its monitoring role.
