Smart mobile application supports the state’s use of digital drivers’ licenses

The Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland (DTMR) has adopted a cutting-edge mobile application developed by Motorola Solutions in order to enhance the productivity of its transport inspectors and augment road safety in Queensland. The Queensland Compliance Information System (QCIS) substitutes paper notebooks with a user-friendly digital solution that simplifies and streamlines the storage, processing, and analysis of operational data.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital Services, the Honourable Bart Mellish, MP, stated,

The Queensland Government is committed to delivering a road network that supports our economy by facilitating traffic flow and ensuring a safe and enjoyable journey for all road users. By providing road inspectors in Queensland with cutting-edge digital technology, they will be better able to enforce the state's road regulations and compliance obligations, which will ultimately benefit all road users in Queensland.

QCIS provides transport examiners with significant time-saving advantages, enabling them to complete an intercept of a single vehicle in a mere 15 minutes. Inspectors now document a maximum of 3,000 vehicle intercepts and distribute 1,000 compliance forms, which may contain infringement notices, on a monthly basis, thanks to QCIS. In addition to contributing to national road safety, the application facilitates the exchange of heavy vehicle data from Queensland with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

By utilizing a web administration portal and adaptable iPads, the solution grants transport inspectors throughout Queensland instantaneous access to data regarding vehicle registration and licensing. QCIS is integrated with pertinent passenger, heavy, and transportation vehicle compliance databases. The application has been further improved with the addition of Queensland's new Digital Licence app, which verifies the identities of drivers in a quick and convenient manner.

QCIS contributes to a critical objective of the strategic plan of the Department of Main Roads Queensland, which is to ensure a secure and protected transportation system for both passengers and products.
