Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) Using Codan Envoy X2 Provides Seamless Connection in A Jungle Environment in Malaysia for the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM)

MALAYSIA – A compact “plug and play” style radio, Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), was designed and assembled by Codan’s Authorised Distributor, Tactical Communications Sdn Bhd (TACTICOM) to ease operations for the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM), a highly respected agency in Malaysia that takes charge of mapping the Malaysian borders. The Mobile Envoy X2 that supports data and voice communications was installed in a ruggedised transportable case.

Installing HF antenna for the Base station is always a challenge in a city environment, especially when space and suitability need to be considered. To maximise the efficiency of using HF network, a combination of radio and IP connectivity was successfully established.

TACTICOM has designed the system to run on the IP backbone of the Malaysian Government’s network, MyGovNet to connect the HQ users to the transmitter’s station hundreds of kilometres away. With this, users do not need to physically be with the radios as they can connect using Codan’s Smartphone App Xtend or Codan’s Virtual Control Point (VCP) instead.
