The new solution will shorten response times, optimize patient transport and improve reporting capabilities.

Hexagon's Safety & Infrastructure division announced today the fire brigade command and control center in Jena, Thuringa, Germany, has selected Hexagon’s industry’s leading computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system. The new solution will shorten response times, optimize patient transport and improve reporting capabilities.

Jena’s emergency response center opened in 2017 and services an area of about 2,025 square kilometers, including the Saale-Holzland district, the municipality of Saalstadt and the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district. The requirements for the new CAD system were developed together to meet the specifications of the federal state of Thuringa.

The new state-of-the-art solution will allow the brigade to move from operations management based on an area-of-responsibility approach to a next-vehicle approach. As part of this process, dispatchers will automatically receive suggestions on the most appropriate units nearby, leading to faster response times and more efficient use of the fire and rescue fleet.

Hexagon's hybrid, cloud-based solution will automate workflows, reduce spatial data integration efforts and provide automatic quality check measures. Additionally, Jena Fire Brigade will use integrated tools to optimize patient transportation processes. This means patient transport orders can be requested directly by hospitals and private physicians and can be planned and coordinated interactively.

In addition to Hexagon’s CAD system, the project includes rescuetrack from Hexagon’s business partner Convexis. Convexis is a leading supplier of fire and emergency vehicle tracking software with state-of-the-art geographic information system (GIS) and geodata management system features.

“Our command and control center in Jena’s emergency response center serves an area with more than 365,000 citizens," said Marko Glätzer, team leader of the command and control center at Jena Fire Brigade. “We’ve needed a solution to help us deliver the best service possible. The Hexagon solution allows us to further optimize our workflows. It means improved call-taking regarding fire prevention, general assistance, rescue and emergency services and timely alerts and control of units of the fire brigade, rescue services and civil protection services."

“Hexagon is honored to deliver innovative public safety solutions to Jena Fire Brigade,” said Maximilian Weber, senior vice president of EMEA for Hexagon’s Safety & Infrastructure division. “We have a long history of supporting fire brigades and rescue services across Germany."
