Embeds Land Mobile Radio (LMR), LTE and Wi-Fi capability in single device

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has expanded its popular XL product line with a premium single-band, P25 mobile radio for public safety and utilities. The XL-185M mobile radio will be unveiled this week at the 2019 International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 6-7.

The XL-185M provides loud, clear audio and includes the same premium feature set XL users have come to expect, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth®, GPS and single key AES encryption. It has an intuitive user interface, with a high-visibility 3.3-inch color LCD screen that features programmable buttons, a navigation pad and easy grip knobs. Inspired by Harris’ XL family of award-winning portable radios, the XL-185M is LTE capable and, through a hardware plug-in available in early 2020, will be able to transform a vehicle into an on-the-go communications hub, providing hot spot capabilities that allow users to stay connected through LMR and LTE networks.

“Our XL-185 mobile radio is uniquely designed to enhance daily operational work for first responders and give them a state-of-the-art user experience. The more ways first responders can access critical information, the better they can do their jobs,” said Nino DiCosmo, president, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. “This is another step in furthering our state-of-the-art technology to provide advanced communications to everyone on emergency response teams.”

Last month, the Harris XL-185M, along with all other Harris public safety radios, were declared compliant by the Department of Homeland Security’s latest P25 CAP requirements – P25 Phase 2. This certification validates that Harris radios will operate on any manufacturers’ P25 Phase 2 CAP-compliant system, providing customers with the option of the industry’s premier converged LMR/LTE device regardless of their system infrastructure provider.

Also at IWCE this week, Harris will launch its new Radio Managed Services program. This program extends the life of radios and maximizes customer investments by offering services, available in tiered levels, for mobile and handheld radios, such as comprehensive maintenance, software refreshes and replacement services.
