ASTRID Equips Mobile Transmission Tower with Satellite Communications

ASTRID, the operator of the public safety communications network in Belgium, uses the mobile masts in consultation with the users to temporarily work at a certain location in order to increase radio coverage and capacity, especially at scheduled events.

At the beginning of last year, ASTRID started using a new compact mobile transmission mast (MTU - mobile transmission unit) with a satellite connection. Now the "old" MTU truck also has the option of connecting to the TETRA radio network via satellite. The existing microwave equipment is retained.

Depending on the circumstances, the most suitable communications technology is used. ASTRID uses the mobile masts in consultation with the users to temporarily work at a certain location in order to increase radio coverage and capacity, especially at scheduled events. The big advantage of the satellite connection is the short setup time, because the masts can connect to the ASTRID radio network very quickly.

Thanks to the satellite connection, the MTUs are now also easier to deploy in an urban environment. Furthermore, they are both registered as priority vehicles and have a blue flashing light, so that they can be on site as quickly as possible in all circumstances.
