Combines advanced sensor technology with existing video solutions to maintain a safe, continuous environment across learning and athletic facilities.

Schools across Europe face growing challenges surrounding safety, student well-being and campus culture. According to the latest Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children Study, conducted in conjunction with WHO/Europe:

  • 15% of adolescents experience bullying or harassment
  • 20% of 15-year-olds regularly use e-cigarettes.

In Romania, national sociological data shows nearly half of students have experienced peer bullying, while school administrators face rising concerns over vape emissions and altercations in unmonitored, privacy-sensitive areas like restrooms and locker rooms.

Mircea Eliade Sports High School, Bucharest’s premier institution for nurturing elite national talent across disciplines like football, tennis and basketball, has deployed a safety and security system from Motorola Solutions to address these challenges head on.

Comprehensive Protection in Common Areas

Efficient management of dense foot traffic and student safety requires continuous monitoring across common areas, entry points and training grounds—all without placing an additional burden on staff. The high school’s new sensor technology integrates with its existing video solutions to automatically detect unusual movement patterns, overcrowding, and physical distress.

Respecting Privacy with Smart Sensor Technology

While video analytics protect open campus areas, sensitive locations like restrooms and locker rooms require a privacy-first approach. To extend safety monitoring without compromising student privacy, the high school integrated HALO Smart Sensors that operate entirely without  recording video. These multi-sensors monitor environmental conditions and air quality, detecting smoke, vape emissions and chemical masking agents. They also detect acoustic spikes, such as shouting, aggression or calls for help, triggering automated alerts so staff can intervene before situations escalate.

Ionut Selea, a computer science teacher and technology lead at Mircea Eliade Sports High School, said:

“Since deploying the system, incidents are down. Investing in smart analytics and privacy-first sensors gives us real-time awareness—allowing us to support our student-athletes discreetly so they can stay focused on winning in the classroom and on the field.”

Data-Driven Insights for School Leaders

Over time, the solution will allow school administrators to review anonymized trends to optimize facility scheduling, streamline staff coverage during major sports events and continually refine campus management practices.

Paul Such, vice president of EMEA Sales - Video Security & Access, Motorola Solutions:

"Every student deserves an environment where they can focus on their potential. By combining our proven security technology in a single solution, we help school leaders stay ahead of emerging safety challenges and create space for young athletes to thrive."
