Itelazpi has participated in the success of the UNDERRUN BILBAO event, making available to the organization its TETRA communications network infrastructure, with which it has been collaborating for some time with Metro Bilbao.

Organized by B Flat Events and sponsored by Metro Bilbao and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the UNDERRUN METRO BILBAO athletics event was held on the 25 March. It was an unique test that gave 200 runners the opportunity to run the 7.8 kilometers that separate the underground Metro stations of Moyua and Ansio in Bilbao.

Organizing such an event of this type, in such a peculiar geographical environment, comes with great challenges in terms of real time communications. Especially for this event, TETRA Operator ITELAZPI has made its TETRA communications network infrastructure available to the organization. A network that is used already for a long time to support the Metro of Bilbao.

By using the communications network, all members of the organization of the event have been able to be permanently communicate before and during the event, at any location along the route.

Additionally, the Metro Bilbao Command Post was able to coordinate with the organization, and with the security personnel and supervision of subway stations, forming a perfectly synchronized team capable of adapting immediately to the changing requirements of the test, thanks to the multiple simultaneous talkgroups that are supported in the TETRA network.

According to Italazpi, this was a clear example of the benefits of ITELAZPI's TETRA Critical Commuications network.
