The base station that provides permanent Nødnett coverage at Trolltunga, a piece of rock jutting horizontally out of a mountain about 700 metres above the north side of the lake Ringedalsvatnet in Norway was connected earlier this week..

"We are pleased to offer emergency services and emergency operators fixed Nødnett coverage in the area. Nødnett is an important tool in their operative everyday life, says acting department director at DSB Nina Myren.

For several months, work has been done to get the necessary installations.

"It has been demanding for our supplier to work during winter time in areas with limited accessibility. Statkraft has contributed, among other things, to offer the power supply and we have had good cooperation, says Myren.

Changed need for coverage
Over the years, Trolltunga has become a very popular tourist destination, and DSB received last year's inquiries from emergency and rescue services with a desire to implement Nødnett coverage.

"Last year we deployed a mobile base station that provided temporary coverage in the last part of the tourist season. We saw that the need for Nødnett coverage had changed over the past year with a significant increase in the number of visitors. Now we are pleased to have a permanent solution in place, "says Myren.

When Nødnett coverage was planned, in consultation with emergency services back in 2012, the need for coverage at the Trolltunga site was not part of the plan. Coverage on Trolltunga was therefore not included in the original coverage plan.
