Airwave in-building solution for Westfield Stratford City

Airwave, the leading provider of critical voice and data communications to public service organisations in Great Britain, has successfully extended the Airwave service to provide coverage within the recently opened Westfield Stratford City shopping centre in East London.

According to Martin Benke, UK Network Services Director, Airwave: “An in-building coverage system was required for the policing of the centre. This is because the Airwave signal from the sites that already provide the external on-street coverage cannot be guaranteed to penetrate large multi-level structures such as Westfield Stratford.”

A multi-operator system has been provided by Westfield Stratford City, which covers all the shopping floors, car park and back-of-house areas. The Airwave system works using a series of antennas and cables to create a „bubble? of coverage for the Airwave network with Westfield Stratford.

“In order to achieve uninterrupted coverage we deployed a base station connected to the main Airwave network that feeds the signal into the system. The Airwave network remains totally secure,” adds Martin.

He went on to say that the installation of the Airwave base station and subsequent integration into the Westfield system went smoothly and was completed in late August “on time and on budget”.
