The US-based telecommunications company has also set up a new service team to offer tailor-made services for customers who rent its equipment under an annual fee.

Motorola Solutions, the enterprise network flagship of Motorola, plans to join other contractors in bidding for radio communication systems in mass transit projects and WiFi. The US-based telecommunications company has also set up a new service team to offer tailor-made services for customers who rent its equipment under an annual fee.

Supranee Kueakoonngern, the country manager of Motorola Solutions (Thailand), said in an interview with the Bangkok post that the company was looking at some bidding projects, particularly on the BTS and MRT.

Motorola is supplying signalling communication systems to its partners for bidding on the BTS Skytrain's two extensions: Saphan Taksin-Wong Wian Yai and On Nut-Bearing, she said. Ms Supranee said also that Motorola was seeing increasing demand as customers shift from analogue radio to digital trunk lines, including the Interior Ministry and the oil and gas sector.

Motorola will also provide a hardware rental service for an annual fee, such as in Australia where it manages and operates an emergency communication service for a police department.

Thailand is one of Motorola's fastest-growing countries in Southeast Asia. Asia-Pacific made up 14% of its revenues in the first half of this year, compared to 12% last year.

Ms. Supranee did not disclose exactly what digital radios systems would be prevailed, however from experience in other countries in Asia, it is very likely that technologies like TETRA will be positioned as the preferred technology for critical radio communications in mass transit projects.
