The ambulance service sent out a call for its officers to communicate via their mobile (GSM) phones.

The C2000 TETRA network for Public Safety Services in The Netherlands within the central and northern Limburg region, has been unreachable for several hours last night due to a heavy thunderstorm.

The Limburg region emergency services knew that bad weather was coming bad weather was coming, as the The KNMI (Dutch weather institute) had issued a weather alert. That the C2000 network in the center and north of the province would therefore go down, was not planned. Hence the fire brigade, as a precaution, called all staff to their base locations around half past threee in the morning and the ambulance service sent out a call to their oficers to communicate via their mobile (GSM) phones.

The disturbance lasted about 2.5 hours. Why exactly the network refused to work properly is being investigated however a lightning strike on a transmission tower seems to be the reason. According to  spokesman of the Fire Brigade During  there have been no major problems occurred.
