Harris Corp. and Nokia Networks have introduced a long-term evolution coverage service offering in an effort to help public safety customers transmit data and videos.

The ruggedized LTE coverage tool features fuel cell powering options, field antennas and backhaul services such as Wi-Fi, microwave and satellite, Nokia Networks said Monday.

Bob Fennelly, head of government and public safety for Nokia Networks, said the company combined its Flexi Multiradio Base Station product with Harris’ BeOn group communications suite to develop the commercial tool for first responders.

The LTE eNodeB system, unveiled at APCO International, integrates with Nokia Networks’ Liquid Applications system for delivery of content such as video feeds and building diagrams.

“Together with our powerful BeOn application, we are realizing LMR and LTE convergence, providing first responder critical services as push-to-talk voice, situational awareness and streaming video over LTE anytime and anywhere,” said Dennis Martinez, chief technology officer for Harris RF Communications.
