ICOM Japan Supplies OSAKA EXPO 2025 with Free Satellite Radios

Icom Inc. and IMV Corporation (headquartered in Osaka), today announced that they will provide a new earthquake monitoring system using satellite radios for the Expo 2025. Icom Inc. cooperates with Expo 2025 by lending free of charge their satellite radios.

In Japan, many seismometers are installed to monitor earthquakes and prevent secondary damages. However, there are practical issues with conventional seismometers, and there are cases where it is difficult to fully utilize them under specific installation environments. 

Icom's IC-SAT100M satellite PTT radio provides real-time communication between radios using the Iridium® satellite network, so it is possible to maintain communication even in the event of a landline communication failure due to a large disaster.

IMV's SW-9033* is a cloud-connectable seismometer that achieves shock-resistance, compactness, and high-performance. In combination with the seismometer, we can provide a more reliable earthquake monitoring system.

ICOM Japan will introduce the new earthquake monitoring system to visitors at Expo 2025, and the company hopes the system to be recognized and utilized as an effective means of earthquake disaster reduction in areas with insufficient communication infrastructure.
