For the first time in Turkey, the line will host 21 driverless trains.

Teltronic, a subsidiary of Hytera Communications Corporation Limited, commissions the System Control Node, Control Centre operators and part of the train-borne radios of Istanbul Metro’s new Üsküdar-Ümraniye-Çekmeköy (UUC) line. Elsitel, Turkish integrator specialised in the transport sector, has contributed to this success.

The UUC line – which connects the inland residential area of Çekmeköy with the Üsküdar coastal area – will be 17 km in length, including 16 stations and one depot. Utilising driverless trains for the first time in Turkey, the line will host 21 driverless trains and a total of 126 metro cars. It promises to ease congestion and improve journey times for millions of passengers.

Teltronic, working with long-term partner Eltisel, provides a complete TETRA communication solution, allowing communication between passengers and the control centre – an absolute necessity for driverless vehicles – as well as security, maintenance and operational staff. Driver communications are also provided where the train is operated in manual mode.

The solution comprises NEBULA infrastructure; CeCo-TRANS – a control centre specially designed for the transportation market; new, broadband-ready SC20 hand-portable radios; SRG3900 mobile radios; and EN50155/EN45545 RTP-603 onboard radio equipment including the new RCC-3000 user interface, with 8” colour touchscreen and highly configurable user interface.

“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work on this ground breaking project,” said Ignacio Callén, Teltronic’s Regional Sales Director.

"This new digital TETRA system will significantly enhance critical communications for Istanbul Metro, driving efficiency and promoting safety whilst contributing to an improved service for passengers".

“This win also builds on our long-term relationship with Elsitel, with whom we are working on numerous metro projects”.
