SunGard Public Sector will sponsor the Honor Network, an organization dedicated to memorializing members of the military and public-safety and justice agencies who have given their lives in defense of the nation’s country and communities.

Founded by U.S. Army veteran Chris Heisler, the Honor Network organizes public appearances nationwide for the U.S. Honor Flag that flew over Ground Zero in the wake of Sept. 11, 2001. The U.S. Honor Flag now tours the country as a tribute to public-safety officers and U.S. military who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“Every day, hundreds of thousands of men and women put their lives on the line to protect our nation and communities,” said Gil Santos, CEO of SunGard’s Public Sector business. “The Honor Network pays a fitting tribute to these brave men and women and we are proud to support their efforts.”

Shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks, the Texas House of Representatives gave a flag to Heisler who, like many Americans, put his business career on hold and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Heisler was attached to the 101st Airborne Division and carried the U.S. Honor Flag, which flew at Ground Zero, to Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar.
